Club President, Boon conducted an in-depth session focused on instruments used in FAI Cross Country (XC) Paragliding Competitions.
The session walked through key elements of competition flying, including:
- Choosing suitable flight instruments: Naviter Oudie N, and smartphone apps like XCTrack and SeeYou Navigator.
- Understanding FAI-compliant GPS flight recorders and backup devices.
- Uploading and validating IGC flight logs (e.g., XContest, XC Globe).
- Setting up XC tasks in instruments and apps, including:
- Defining turnpoints and start/finish cylinders.
- Airspace and glide warnings.
- Live tracking and task scoring.
- Syncing tasks from competition briefings or files (.wpt, .cup formats).
The hands-on section allowed pilots to practice inputting tasks manually and importing them from files, helping them become familiar with their gear under real competition conditions.
This session comes just in time for the upcoming FAI IPXC Serie 3 – WEST JAVA PARAGLIDING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2025 event, where proper task setup and flight logging can make or break a competition result.
